Town of Victor is located in the northwest Ontario County along the border of Monroe County. It was formed from part of the Town of Bloomfield in 1812. The Auburn and Rochester Railroad arrived in 1840. Gypsum mining was important from the 1830s through circa 1940. Important crops within the town consist of grain, apples, and seed potatoes. Victor Insulator Co., established in 1893 (now called Victor Insulators), manufactures glass insulators. A four-mile section of the New York State Thruway was built in the town between 1946 and 1948, which has helped the development of Eastview Mall and contributed to a population increase of 38% between 1990 and 2000.
